Alcohol Treatment in San Diego

How We Treat Alcohol Use Disorder

Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) is a serious condition. If left untreated, it gets worse over time, can ruin lives, lead to jail time, or even death. Healthy U offers the tools and support you need.

Through compassionate, evidence-based treatment for AUD, we can help you regain control. With flexible program options and an approach that integrates both mental health and addiction recovery, lasting sobriety is possible.

Because every journey is unique, we offer multiple levels of care, including Partial Hospitalization Programming (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Programming (IOP). You’ll attend a structured therapy session before returning home in the evenings, making it easier to obtain treatment without putting other responsibilities on hold.

Connect with us and together we’ll find the best place for you to start your recovery journey.

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)

In some cases, we offer medication-assisted treatment to help enhance recovery. MAT combines FDA-approved medications with counseling and behavioral therapy to help:

  • Manage withdrawal symptoms
  • Reduce cravings
  • Support long-term recovery

Some of the medications we utilize here at Healthy U are disulfiram, which discourages drinking by causing unpleasant side effects when consumed, as well as acamprosate, which helps restore brain chemistry and reduce the urge to drink.

Evidence-Based Therapies

No matter which of our alcohol recovery programs our admissions team places you in, you’ll build coping skills and address underlying causes. A few of the talk therapies we practice include:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT helps identify negative thought patterns and change them, as well as behaviors associated with addiction, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and more.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

This form of talk therapy focuses on emotional regulation. It’s especially beneficial for those battling addiction and any relationship issues that have stemmed from AUD.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

A psychotherapy technique, EMDR helps process any traumatic memories that contribute to AUD. While not offered at Healthy U, this therapy is available through our network of care providers.

Psychedelic Therapy

Psychedelic therapy is an emerging treatment that has helped many improve their mental health. Again, we don’t offer this here at Healthy U, but we do have a provider in our network that offers psychedelic therapies.
