What Is Addiction Treatment?

Addiction treatment is the course of action that aims to address and stop substance use disorder. The goal of treatment is to get you into recovery and help you build a healthier life.

Addiction treatment could involve several types of therapies and approaches, including:

  • Periodic psychological assessments to assess your progress
  • Therapy and counseling to address the underlying cause of your addiction
  • Behavioral strategies to strengthen resilience and coping skills
  • Support networks you can lean on to maintain long-term recovery
  • Practical relapse-prevention techniques to help you stay sober

Turn to Healthy U for a customized treatment plan for your needs, lifestyle, and health.

How We Treat Substance Use Disorders

All of our substance use treatment programs are outpatient-based, which means you’ll come to our clinic in the mornings or afternoons for therapy sessions and return to your home each evening. In some cases, we even have virtual therapy options that allow you to receive quality care from the comfort of your home.

In Partial Hospitalization Programming, we’ll work together at least five days a week, six hours each day, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

If you’re placed in Intensive Outpatient Programming, there are different levels, with the minimum time requirement being nine hours per week.

Should our virtual therapy program be the right place to start your recovery journey, you’ll work with your licensed therapist to determine the schedule that works best for you and your lifestyle.

No matter which of our treatment programs you’re placed in, you’ll receive the highest quality of care from a team of dedicated healthcare professionals who are committed to your recovery.

Outpatient vs. Inpatient Treatment

Outpatient

Choosing the right level of care and support is an essential part of recovery. We take an outpatient approach, allowing you to continue living at your place of residence while attending structured therapy sessions.

For many, outpatient addiction treatment is ideal, as it allows you to seek care while meeting your everyday responsibilities. Given that recovery treatment takes time, typically more than three months, outpatient assistance means life doesn’t have to stop for months on end.

Inpatient

When it comes to inpatient drug rehab in San Diego, you’ll stay in a facility 24/7 for treatment. Stays can range from days to months, and inpatient facilities are typically recommended for those with severe substance use disorder or co-occurring, uncontrolled mental health conditions.

During your initial Healthy U evaluation, we’ll assess your symptoms, medical history, and diagnoses to determine whether outpatient or inpatient care or even a detoxification program is right for you. Should our outpatient treatment plans best suit your recovery, we’ll determine which of our specific programs would be the most beneficial for your journey.

Proven Therapies

Depending on your outpatient program and the licensed clinician you work with, your recovery plan could incorporate several evidence-backed addiction therapies, including:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): CBT can teach you how to change the harmful thought patterns you have that contribute to your substance use.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): Focusing on practical ways to manage and regulate emotions, DBT can help improve your resilience and reduce the likelihood of relapse.
  • Mindfulness: Developing mindfulness techniques can help you manage emotional triggers by staying present and aware.
  • Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT): When used in conjunction with talk therapies, medication could help reduce your cravings and withdrawal symptoms. MAT is primarily used for those struggling with opioid or alcohol use disorder but can be beneficial for other types of addiction. Common treatment medications include buprenorphine to help reduce cravings and disulfiram (Antabuse), which discourages drinking by causing unpleasant effects when alcohol is consumed, such as vomiting.

Insurance and Payment Options

Here at Healthy U, we believe that financial concerns shouldn’t be a barrier to receiving quality addiction treatment. That’s why we’re in-network with many major insurance providers and offer payment plans for those without coverage. We encourage you to connect with your insurance provider for questions about the addiction treatments that are covered under your specific plan.
